Hey 👋,
I'm Ollie. I'm from WA and applied for medicine when I graduated in 2021, successfully being offered CSP unbonded medical school positions from UWA, UQ, USyd, Flinders, and Unimelb. Currently, I'm studying Mathematics at the University of Melbourne under a provisional entry pathway to do postgraduate MD. I achieved an ATAR of 99.95 and a UCAT of 3200 (after technical difficulties). I was Captain of Debating during my time in high school and was involved with public speaking.
I'm also a moderator on the /r/UCAT Discord server (invite link below), an online community of 3k students who are passionate about medicine. I do that voluntarily, in my spare time, and also don't plan to monetise this interview session or sell you anything. After all, I'm 18; I'm not an expert when it comes to interviews - very few people are - but I can sure try my best to sound like one!
I just want to hopefully help you guys out, because I know this is a stressful time and interviews are incredibly scary.
For the students who haven't read up on medical interviews at all - there are a ton of wonderful resources online introducing you to interview preparation! Reading up prior to this session will be helpful, as I don't plan to spend time on the absolute basics - check out resources like this MedEntry guide%20personal%20qualities.) and the 4 Pillars of Medical Ethics before this session. So many wonderful resources are available already so don't take my word for everything!
I'm aiming to run a discussion which covers what I've learnt from my own interview experience. Things like:
Content
Honestly, all the Content stuff is pretty easily searched up and many many people have made some wonderful videos and guides on the internet. But I'll try give you guys an introduction to this information before heading into the next point:
